Ashland County Sheriff's Deputies, along with U.S. Forest Service, begin a search, which yields no results. July 17, 2019: Search continues with ground and K-9 teams from Sawyer County Search and Rescue and St. Louis County Search and Rescue. No new leads. August 6, 2019: Another search is conducted at the campsite area with K9s. Still no new leads. Team MibSAR conducted an extensive search of the 1.5-million-acre Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, but the search yielded no results. Search methods included ground, K-9, water, underwater, and drone searches, but no trace of Richard has been found.

This is not an approved hunting place. It is approved for fishing, hiking, and other things.
